OpenAthens username already exists in the database

OpenAthens usernames are not unique and expired usernames are recycled. You may occasionally see the following error message when trying to save a user record in KnowledgeShare.



This means that another KnowledgeShare user still has this username attached to their record. Please contact the KnowledgeShare team who will remove the username from the other record. You will then be able to save.


You can also save user records with the OpenAthens username and PUID fields empty. These are no longer essential as the login process automatically captures the unique OpenAthens TargetedID (not visible).
