Can library members edit their own Professional Interests?

Modified on Thu, 16 Oct at 1:39 PM

Over time, members’ professional interests may expand or change. While Assigned Librarians will always have oversight of their members profiles, those users who wish to edit their own profile are also able to do so by logging into KnowledgeShare with OpenAthens.

Members may choose to update their profile either by adding categories directly for themselves, or by noting their interests in the free-text field labelled “Your Interests” for their assigned librarian to action.

NOTE: The free-text field at the top is for member/ assigned librarian communication only. It does not create or change evidence update settings. It is necessary to apply categories on the members behalf in the fields at the below.

The system sends an automated email notification to the assigned librarian when amendments are made by their member, and it will detail what these are:

Assigned librarians should check:

  1. Text field notes: Match members noted interests to the appropriate categories
  2. Any categories applied by member: Check these capture the members interests appropriately
  3. Frequency: Check that this is defined and set at a sensible rate
  4. User information: Check that Job Title, Department, etc, are up to date on the user information page of their profile.

Assigned librarians may wish to consider attending our Member Categorisation session as a refresher, or as a new user.

Go to the main page, select Submit a Ticket and then Book onto Training

Guide for Library Members

We have created a guide for library members to assist them when updating their Professional Interests.

You are welcome to use this on digital platforms, in email and in print. A second copy in Word format is also available so that you can customise this content to your own preferences if you wish to.
